How many times have you been out at a restaurant and witnessed a group of friends all sitting with their faces buried in their smartphones? Now before I go further I confess that I have been a part of that group more times than I care to admit. So I'm not taking a holier than thou approach here.
I will say that literally every time I catch myself doing this I think "What in the hell are you doing?" Because these people are my friends and I can't think of anything better to do in this moment than double tap this Instagram picture or look at this funny meme?! (I love funny memes btw) :)
One thing I love about my friends is that if it goes on too long, one of us will call bullshit and make fun of us for being for being "those people" and we should. We are spending our time and money to be out with each other so the least we can do is be in the moment with the people we have chosen to spend our most valuable commodity (time) on.
Fellas if you're on a date, I hope this goes without saying but please put your phone up. This one drives me nuts and I just feel sorry for the girl in this situation. (Or vice versa) If you can't think of anything to say, maybe because you're nervous if its your first date. Put in some effort and talk about literally anything but the weather and I guarantee she will get more into you. Who knows you may even score a little sexy time! Nobody wants to be on a date with someone who is preoccupied. Or maybe you've been together so long you have run out of shit to talk about you just want to get the check and zone out in front of the television. Or maybe your phone is blowing up with FB updates and text messages.
Whatever the reason is put up your phone and engage in actual conversation. Odds are you're pretty awesome and have a bunch of interesting things to say. That's why the people in your life want to be around you in the first place. And if not fake it until you make it. lol
Life should about sharing the often times hilarious moments with the people we care about. So get your beautiful face out of your phone and connect with the people in your life. Then you will be able to create actual life experiences. Trust me that meme will be there when you're on the pooper!
Best of life, Kris
